Newark’s Paid Sick Leave Ordinance finally gets a formal posting for Newark workplaces.[wc_divider style=”dotted” line=”single” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=””]
When Newark first went live with their new Paid Sick Leave Ordinance in 2014, the City furnished only an FAQ sheet for posting, but now they have released an actual notice that employers are required to display and to provide to employers when they begin employment.
Newark Ordinance FAQ Replaced with Notice of Employee Rights to Paid Sick Time
Employers with 10 or more employees working within the boundaries of Newark must display the notice in a conspicuous and accessible place in each establishment where employees are employed. Additionally, employers must provide written notice to new employees when they begin employment and to existing employees as soon as practicable.
The Newark Notice of Employee Rights to Paid Sick Time is available in English, but employers with 10% or more of the workforce primarily speaking a language other than English must provide the postings in that primary language.[wc_box color=”success” text_align=”left”]
Newark Paid Sick Leave for Workers
Newark’s ordinance allows full- and part-time employees to earn up to one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked with a 40-hour per year cap for businesses with 10 or more employees. Businesses with nine or fewer employees are required to offer workers at least 24 hours of sick pay per year.
