Labor Law Poster Spotlight: Important New Posters from Michigan, Revere, and Philadelphia

Michigan’s Unemployment Poster (UIA-1711)
Michigan just laid off its old Unemployment Insurance Poster and hired a new one, with new requirements. Michigan has a couple different Unemployment Insurance posters for employers, which is why it is important to highlight that poster “UIA-1711” saw a vast sweep of updates this month.
To file a claim with the state of Michigan, employees will have to follow enhanced filing instructions and be prepared to have the following information, including but not limited to:
- Name, address, first and last dates of employment, gross earnings per quarter, and reason for separation
- United States Citizenship and Immigration (USCIS) number and work authorization expiration date for non-citizens
- Federal Employer ID Number (FEIN) or Employer Account Number (EAN)
Employees should note essential work search documentation requirements also changed. Instead of documenting one work search activity during biweekly benefits certification, employees must now document three.

Revere’s Wage Theft Ordinance Poster
Occasionally, cities and towns will enter the employment law arena with new posting requirements for employers. Revere was one of those jurisdictions recently adopting a wage theft ordinance with posting requirement provisions for all employers.
Wage theft, whether it is failing to pay proper minimum wages, improperly withholding wages, or failing to pay on required wage schedules, is a costly compliance issue for employers. The required poster informs employees of the proper procedure for filing wage-theft complaints against their employers.

Philadelphia’s Fair Chance Hiring Law Poster
Employers in Philly have been sweating this summer, waiting for the city to release a much-anticipated Fair Chance Hiring Law poster. Employers can breathe a cool sigh of relief as the “City of Brotherly Love” finally released the poster this month.
A fair chance ordinance ensures that applicants are not unfairly discriminated against during the hiring process because of a prior criminal record. In Philadelphia, it is illegal for employers to ask about a criminal record before extending a conditional offer of either employment, reemployment, promotion, or increased compensation.
The highly awaited poster follows Mayor Cherelle Parker’s signing of Bill No. 250373-A, which revised the Fair Criminal Record Screening Standards (FCRSSO) to add definitions for felony, misdemeanor, and incarceration, among other changes, and updated the notice requirements employers must follow when rejecting a candidate based on a criminal record.
