The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has released an updated version of its “Job Safety and Health: It’s the Law!” workplace poster. The revised poster highlights OSHA’s updated messaging, “OSHA Cares That You Go Home Safe,” and features a redesigned layout with streamlined employee rights and updated contact information.
Do Employers Need to Replace Their Existing OSHA Job Safety and Health poster?
No, employers are not required to replace their existing OSHA Job Safety and Health posters with the updated version released in early 2026, as previous versions remain compliant.
OSHA explicitly states on its official website the following:
- Employers must display the poster in the workplace where workers can easily see it.
- Languages other than English and Spanish are available. See “Other Languages” below.
- Employers do not need to replace previous versions of the poster. It is ok to display an old version of this poster.
- If you are in a state with an OSHA-approved state plan, there may be a state version of this poster. Federal government agencies must use the Federal Agency Poster.
GovDocs Client Note:
This OSHA update is considered a non-mandatory update because employers may continue displaying previous versions of the poster.
GovDocs clients will not receive an automatic poster replacement shipment as part of this update.
What Changed in the Updated Poster?
- Poster Name Updated – The posting name has been updated to OSHA Cares That You Go Home Safe
- Employer Responsibilities Removed – The prior posting included a section outlining employer obligations (e.g., OSHA reporting requirements, compliance with OSHA standards, and posting OSHA citations), which is not included in the new version
- Employee Rights Streamlined – Several rights previously listed, such as filing a complaint, requesting workplace injury logs, and accessing medical and exposure records, are no longer listed on the new version
- Poster Reformatted – The posting features a redesigned layout with a simplified format and updated graphics
- Contact Information Updated – A QR Code was added, the TTY number was removed, and the OSHA website link was updated
- Revision Date Updated – The poster revision date updated to 2026
Posting Requirements
- Private-sector employers in the United States must display the OSHA poster in a conspicuous place where employees can easily see it, unless the workplace operates under an OSHA-approved state plan, which requires a state-specific poster.
- The poster must be at least 8.5 × 14 inches with 10-point body text.
- Posting in languages other than English is not required. However, GovDocs includes the Spanish version in its offerings.
