Florida Minimum Wage Increase on September 30, 2026
Effective Sept. 30, 2026, Florida’s minimum wage increased from $14 to $15 per hour, and the tipped wage rose from $10.98 to $11.98. The $15 rate will remain in effect through 2027, with annual adjustments based on the CPI-W beginning Jan. 1, 2028.
Effective Sept. 30, 2026, Florida increased its minimum wage from $14 to $15 per hour, with the tipped wage rising from $10.98 to $11.98.
How Does Florida Set Its Minimum Wage?
In November 2020, Florida voters passed a constitutional amendment to raise the state’s minimum wage to $10 in 2021 and then increase it by $1 every year until reaching $15 on Sept. 30, 2026. The minimum wage will then increase based on the applicable consumer price index (CPI-W), starting on Jan. 1, 2028, and annually thereafter.
What Does This Mean for Tipped Employees?
The 2020 ballot referendum did not address the rate for tipped employees, so the tip credit remains unchanged. Florida employers with tipped workers may take a tip credit of $3.02, meaning the base wage must be at least $11.98, effective Sept. 30, 2026.
Does Florida Have a Posting Requirement?
Yes, Florida’s minimum wage law states the following:
“Each employer who must pay an employee the Florida minimum wage shall prominently display a poster substantially similar to the one made available pursuant to subsection (3) in a conspicuous and accessible place in each establishment where such employees are employed.”
The minimum wage poster provides key information for employers and employees, including historical minimum wage rates, retaliation protection, civil action filing, and penalty information. GovDocs will ship updated posters to affected customers that are part of GovDocs’ Standard Update Program.

The Future of Florida’s Minimum Wage
Sept. 30 remains a significant date for Florida’s minimum wage, but instead of marking a rate increase, it will be the date the state announces the rate that takes effect the following Jan. 1. With the current $15 rate remaining in effect through 2027, employers operating in Florida get a slight reprieve from annual changes.
