Important New Posters from Illinois, Rhode Island, and San Francisco

A highlight of several recent labor law poster releases that employers should know about, brought to you by the GovDocs Employment Law and Compliance Team.

Rhode Island Veterans’ Benefits and Services Poster

On June 17, 2024, Governor Dan McKee signed legislation (HB 7058) that adds a new labor law posting requirement impacting a large portion of employers in the state. Specifically, employers with more than 50 full-time equivalent employees must display the new Veterans’ Benefits and Services poster in a conspicuous area in the workplace.

HB 7058 took effect on Jan. 1, 2025, and Rhode Island’s Department of Labor and Training, in consultation with the Office of Veterans Services, finally released the new poster in February. The poster includes several categories of free resources and hotlines regarding veterans rights, benefits, contacts, etc., including:

  • Mental Health
  • Substance Abuse
  • Education, Workforce, and Training
  • Rhode Island Office of Veterans (contact information)
  • Legal Services
  • Tax Benefits
  • Additional Resources (hotlines and contact information)

GovDocs Standard Update Program is shipping updated posters to impacted customers in Rhode Island.

Illinois No Smoking Poster

Illinois Department of Public Health released an updated No Smoking Poster. The changes to the posting were in light of recent legislation passed (HB 1540) amending The Smoke Free Illinois Act (the Act) to prohibit electronic cigarettes in any public place or place of employment.

Accordingly, the Illinois No Smoking Poster now states, “No Smoking or E-Cigarette Use Indoors or Within 15 Feet of Entrance.” The posting now includes the symbol of an e-cigarette as prohibited as well.

The new Illinois No Smoking poster is required to be displayed at each public place and place of employment where smoking is prohibited by the Act and must be conspicuously displayed at every entrance.

Both GovDocs Update Program and Spanish Update Program customers will receive updated posters for their Illinois locations.

San Francisco Paid Parental Leave Poster

San Francisco updated its Paid Parental Leave poster in coordination with California’s new paid family leave benefit requirements. Of note, the weekly benefit amount updated on the posting as follows:

“Amount: California Paid Family Leave (PFL) benefits rates are about 70-90% of regular weekly wages, depending on income, and up to a cap. San Francisco employers pay the difference between your weekly benefit from the California PFL program and 100% of your normal gross weekly wages (up to the maximum).”

California PFL benefits were previously listed as 60% or 70% of weekly wages and up to a cap on the posting.

San Francisco’s Paid Parental Leave poster is required to be displayed at any workplace or job site by employers with 20 or more employees. Employers must also display the poster informing employees of their rights in English, Spanish, Chinese, and any language spoken by at least 5% of the employees at the workplace or job site. Note, the poster itself includes information in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Filipino.

GovDocs is shipping an updated San Francisco Paid Parental Leave poster out to customers with locations in the city, and the poster will also be included in the GovDocs Intranet Poster Program.
