New Labor Law Posters from Florida, Louisiana, and Canada

In this monthly series, the GovDocs Employment Law and Compliance Team highlights three recent labor law poster releases that employers need to know about.

Florida Child Labor Law Poster

On March 22, 2024, Governor DeSantis signed House Bill No. 49, which removes several employment restrictions for certain minors in the Sunshine State. Of note, the law provides that minors 16 and 17 years old can now work 8 hours a day between 6:30 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. when school is scheduled the following day and can also work longer on holidays and Sundays. Additionally, they may work more than 30 hours a week when school is in session if the minor’s parent, custodian, or school superintendent provides a waiver. The bill further revises child labor provisions related to meal breaks, exemptions for home education programs, and penalties.

With significant amendments to the state’s child labor law in effect on July 1, 2024, the release of a new Florida Child Labor Poster reflecting these changes was a widely anticipated update.

Accordingly, the GovDocs Update Program is currently shipping new Florida posters out to impacted customer locations.

Louisiana Earned Income Credit Poster

Each year, Louisiana updates its Earned Income Credit Poster, which provides information on the potential availability of earned income tax credits when employees meet specific requirements. According to these requirements, employees may be eligible for tax credits if they make less than a certain amount of income. The earned income and adjusted gross income, updated for 2024, must be less than:

  • $59,899 ($66,819 married filing jointly) with three or more qualifying children
  • $55,768 ($62,688 married filing jointly) with two qualifying children
  • $49,084 ($56,004 married filing jointly) with one qualifying child
  • $18,591($25,511 married filing jointly) with no qualifying children

The Louisiana Earned Income Credit Poster is required for all employers and must be displayed in the workplace. Both GovDocs Update Program and Spanish Update Program customers will receive updated posters for their Louisiana locations.

Prince Edward Island Minimum Wage Poster

Between 2017 and 2022, Prince Edward Island updated its provincial minimum wage on April 1. However, the Canadian province has now slated two minimum wage increases for both 2023 and 2024. The minimum wage order sets the following schedule:

Effective Date  Minimum Wage
Jan. 1, 2023  $14.50 per hour
Oct. 1, 2023  $15.00 per hour
April 1, 2024  $15.40 per hour
Oct. 1, 2024  $16.00 per hour

The 2024 minimum wage rate updates are now reflected on the Minimum Wage Poster, which is required for employers who have non-unionized employees in Prince Edward Island.

GovDocs customers subscribed to the Canada Update Program will receive updated Prince Edward Island posters at their impacted locations.
