Labor Law Poster Spotlight: Important New Posters from Alaska, Michigan, and Washington

A highlight of several recent labor law poster releases that employers should know about, brought to you by the GovDocs Employment Law and Compliance Team.
In this monthly series, the GovDocs Employment Law and Compliance Team highlights three (this time four) recent labor law poster releases that employers need to know about.
Michigan’s Minimum Wage Law and Earned Sick Time Act Posters
What may finally be the end to a multi-year employment law saga in Michigan, legislation was passed on Feb. 21, 2025, making last minute revisions to the state’s minimum wage and paid sick leave laws set to take effect that same day. For more details on this saga, from the original ballot measure to the legal challenges and the most recent amendments, check out our recent GovDocs Employment Law News Blog: Eleventh-Hour Updates to Michigan’s Minimum Wage and Paid Sick Leave Laws.
With the respective changes to both laws, new versions of Michigan’s Minimum Wage Law and Earned Sick Time Act labor law posters were released. Specifically, Michigan’s minimum wage schedule for standard and tipped employees significantly updated under the Minimum Hourly Wage Rate section of the Minimum Wage Law posting. A civil fine of $2,500 for employers failing to pay the minimum wage to tipped employees was also added to the Enforcement section of the posting.
On the Earned Sick Time Act posting, the Complaint Filing section was mostly stricken to include just the following, “An employee affected by an alleged violation, at any time within 3 years after the alleged violation or the date when the employee knew of the alleged violation may file a complaint with the Wage & Hour Division.”
Michigan’s Minimum Wage Law and Earned Sick Time Act posters are required to be displayed conspicuously in the workplace by all employers for their employees to see. Accordingly, GovDocs is shipping updated Michigan posters out to customers with locations in the state, and the posters will also be included in the GovDocs Intranet Poster Program.
Alaska’s Safety and Health Protection on the Job Poster
Alaska updated its state-level OSHA poster, which is required to be displayed by all employers in the workplace. Specifically, the Proposed Penalty section was revised to increase the mandatory penalty amounts against employers for serious violations to $16,550, increase the proposed penalty amount for failure to correct violations to $16,550 per day, and increase penalties for willful or repeated violations to $165,514. These penalty increases align with the federal OSHA maximum penalties that are adjusted for inflation each year.
Further, the regional address for the U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA Division was also updated for individuals to make a complaint directly, which is found under the Program Complaint section.
GovDocs Standard Update Program is shipping updated posters to impacted customers in Alaska.
Washington’s Workers’ Compensation – State Fund Poster
Washington recently passed legislation expanding who is considered a qualified health-care provider when obtaining medical care after a job injury occurs. The Workers’ Compensation – State Fund posting now indicates that effective July 1, 2025, injured workers may choose a physician assistant or, for claims solely for mental health conditions, a psychologist.
Washington’s Workers’ Compensation – State Fund posting is required for all employers who obtain their workers’ compensation insurance through the state.
Both GovDocs Update Program and Spanish Update Program customers will receive updated posters for their Washington locations.
