A highlight of several recent labor law poster releases that employers should know about, brought to you by the GovDocs Employment Law and Compliance Team.

Key Takeaways

  • Los Angeles minimum wage increases July 1, 2026: The hourly rate rises from $17.87 to $18.42, including tipped employees, as California prohibits tip credits. A revised poster is required, and GovDocs is already shipping updated posters in English and Spanish to impacted customers.
  • Bloomington, MN repeals its ESST ordinance: The city council voted to repeal its Earned Sick and Safe Time ordinance on April 27, 2026. Employees retain the same protections under Minnesota's statewide ESST law, but the Bloomington poster can now be removed and discarded. GovDocs has removed it from the Intranet Poster Program.
  • Minnesota minimum wage poster adds rest and meal break requirements: No wage increase, but the updated poster now includes mandatory break language, a 15-minute rest break per four consecutive hours, and a 30-minute meal break for shifts of six or more hours. New QR codes and Sick and Safe Time revisions are also included. GovDocs is shipping updated posters to clients with Minnesota locations.

In this monthly series, the GovDocs Employment Law and Compliance Team highlights three recent labor law poster releases that employers need to know about.

Los Angeles Minimum Wage Poster Update: July 1, 2026

Los Angeles, CA has announced a minimum wage increase that will take effect on July 1, 2026, raising the hourly rate from $17.87 to $18.42. Because California law does not permit employers to apply a tip credit toward minimum wage obligations, tipped employees must also be paid the full $18.42 hourly rate. In response to these changes, the City’s minimum wage and paid sick leave poster has been revised.

Los Angeles requires employers to display the new minimum wage poster in a clearly visible place at any workplace or job site where employees work. While the English version of the poster is required to be displayed, employers should also note that other language versions must be displayed when the language is spoken by at least 5% of the employees at a worksite. The poster has been released in twelve different languages, including Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, and Vietnamese.

The GovDocs Standard Update Program is currently shipping new minimum wage posters in English and Spanish to impacted customer locations in the City of Los Angeles.

Bloomington Earned Sick and Safe Time Poster Update

On April 27, 2026, the city council in Bloomington, MN voted to repeal its Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) ordinance. The repeal was prompted due to Minnesota’s own state-level ESST law. Although Bloomington’s ordinance has been repealed, employees in the city will continue to receive the same protections under Minnesota’s statewide ESST law. The city noted that the only change is that employees must now file complaints with the state instead of the city if they believe their rights to use earned sick and safe time have been violated.

Based on the repeal of Bloomington’s ESST ordinance, the corresponding posters no longer need to be displayed in the workplace. Therefore, the posters can be removed and discarded. They have also been removed from GovDocs Intranet Poster Program.

Minnesota Minimum Wage Poster Update

In Minnesota, the state’s minimum wage poster updated, not with an increase to its hourly wage, but to include a new Rest and Meal Breaks section. Specifically, the poster now states that employers “must allow at least a 15-minute rest break within every four hours of consecutive work and at least a 30-minute meal break if a shift lasts six or more consecutive hours.” A new QR code was also added to the poster specifically for employees to use to learn more about breaks. The poster also had revisions to its Sick and Safe Time section as well as an update to the QR code in the Retaliation Prohibited section.

The GovDocs Standard Update Program is shipping updated minimum wage posters to customer locations in Minnesota.
