Maryland Approves $15 Minimum Wage

Maryland Minimum Wage

On March 20, 2019, the Maryland General Assembly passed a new state minimum wage law. The law will raise the state’s minimum wage from $10.10 to $15 by 2025.

UPDATE (April 17, 2023): New Maryland minimum wage law. 

Large Employers

First, for employers with 15 or more employees, the wage rate will increase $0.75 each year until 2024, and increase $1 in 2025 as follows:

  • Jan. 1, 2020: $11
  • Jan. 1, 2021: $11.75
  • Jan. 1, 2022: $12.50
  • Jan. 1, 2023: $13.25
  • Jan. 1, 2024: $14
  • Jan. 1, 2025: $15

Small Employers

Next, for employers with 14 or less employees, the wage rate will increase $0.60 each year until 2025, and increase $1 in 2026 as follows:

  • Jan. 1, 2020: $11.00
  • Jan. 1, 2021: $11.60
  • Jan. 1, 2022: $12.20
  • Jan. 1, 2023: $12.80
  • Jan. 1, 2024: $13.40
  • Jan. 1, 2025: $14
  • Jan. 1, 2026: $14.60
  • July 1, 2026: $15

The bill was enacted after the legislature overrode Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan’s veto.
